Theme: The Butterfly Effect

February 9, 2025
10:00am - 2:00pm JST
(UTC +9hrs)
Shibuya, Tôkyô
Japan
This event is open to the public.
Tickets are available.

The butterfly effect depends on the belief that the world is deeply interconnected, such that one small occurrence can influence a much larger and complex system. This effect originated from an allegory for chaos theory, that a small butterfly flapping its wings could hypothetically cause a typhoon. Even one small action from a single person could change the worldーwhat can we do and who can we influence?

Aylie Guyodo

Student
Aylie Guyodo, a Junior at The British School in Tokyo, has faced numerous challenges and stigmas in her everyday life due to people’s lack of awareness about the existence of non-apparent disabilities. She provides the audience with the perspective of those with invisible disabilities, who constantly receive unfair judgement due to their biases, striving for a future with less limits for herself and the community she represents. In her talk, she also encourages the audience to reconsider their idea of inclusion, from a moral responsibility to an opportunity to empower an individual, so that a community where anyone can reach their full potential could become reality.

Eriko Otomo

Student
Public Spaces: Preserving cultures within communities and individuals. Eriko Otomo, a student at Hiroo Gakuen, recalls her childhood living in Boston through the lens of hip-hop and its history. Let us appreciate the transformative experience of public places, especially in today's time of digitalised interactions with Eriko, a hip-hop dancer at Hiroo Gakuen who cultivated her passion in the suburbs of Boston. She explores the impactful importance of forming a sense of identity, community and culture with the public places around us.

Miyu Inoue

Student
Miyu Inoue is a senior student at Hosei University High School who explores feminism through cinema and her relationships with family and friends. Driven by a passion for challenging gender stereotypes and societal norms, she aims to build a society that values inclusivity and individuality. Drawing on her personal experiences and global perspectives, Miyu invites audiences to reconsider the importance of not defining others—or oneself—by fixed notions, demonstrating how such an approach can sometimes spark profound changes not only within oneself but also in those around us.

Sentaro Masuda

Student
Sentaro Masuda, a student at Hiroo Gakuen International, has spent years speaking at debates, conferences, and competitions, but his confidence in public speaking wasn’t always natural. Often feeling out of place and uncertain, he discovered a transformative mindset: the power of acting like he belonged, even when he didn’t. In his talk, “Fake it till you make it,” Sentaro shares how this approach helps push through self-doubt and build real confidence through action. Drawing from personal experience, he offers practical insights on how anyone can harness this mindset to unlock their potential and thrive in challenging situations.

Shahir Mostafa

Student
Shahir Mostafa is a high school senior, entrepreneur, and the founder of Aviatah LLC, a garments manufacturing company with operations spanning Japan and Bangladesh. Starting his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 13 with just ¥1, Shahir has built Aviatah into a company generating ¥100 million annually. His passion lies in inspiring aspiring entrepreneurs to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and build sustainable businesses. Through his TEDx talk, Shahir shares the lessons he’s learned about trust, scaling from nothing, and the subtle yet transformative choices that shows the “Butterfly Effect” in entrepreneurship.
